The 7 Steps

Step 1:

Research

Understanding the academic reputation and offerings of a school is important for ensuring that the student athlete will receive a quality education and have access to resources that will help them succeed both on and off the field. Additionally, researching the athletic programs and facilities can help the student athlete determine if the school is a good fit for their athletic goals and aspirations.

Step 2:

Apply

By applying in advance, student athletes can plan ahead and make sure they are eligible to play sports at the school of their choosing. Additionally, applying early gives them the opportunity to secure scholarships, financial aid, and admission into competitive athletic programs.

Step 3:

Fill Out Questionnaire

This step allows the coaching staff to gather important information about the athlete's background, performance, and potential fit within their program. This information helps the coaches better evaluate the athlete's skills and determine if they would be a good fit for the team.

Step 4:

Communicate with Coaches

Open communication can help student-athletes understand the expectations and requirements of the program, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and rewarding athletic experience.

Step 5:

Attend a camp with or hosted by the school

It allows the athlete to familiarize themselves with the coaches, teammates, and the overall expectations of the program. Building strong relationships within the team early on can greatly enhance communication and team dynamics throughout the season. Participating in a camp provides an opportunity for the athlete to hone their skills and receive guidance from experienced coaches.

Step 6:

Attend a tour/visit to the school

It allows the athlete to get a feel for the campus and facilities, helping them determine if it is the right fit academically and athletically. Meeting with coaches, professors, and current athletes during the visit can provide valuable insight into the program and the overall culture of the school.

Step 7:

Keep the coaches updated

Maintaining open communication with coaches demonstrates to potential recruiters a sense of responsibility and dedication, which can positively impact the athlete's chances of securing a scholarship or spot on a team. Staying in touch with coaches is essential for student-athletes to maximize their opportunities and achieve their collegiate athletic goals.
